illuminati are a three piece from Australia who came to light after entering Brisbane's TripleJ-FM "Unearthed" competition, in 1999. After becoming runner-up, the first incarnation of illuminati debuted at the Big Day Out that same year - a strong start for a new group formed by a guy called Pari. illuminati re-emerged in the latter part of 2002 with a new line-up and began writing and recording songs for a debut album. The songs were different from before, they had developed a direction in music and sound, flowing through hip-hop, ambient-pop and electronica, set in sound-scapes with dub and eastern nuances. Since completion in the latter part of 2005, the illuminati album has created much interest in its fresh atmospheric grooves. illuminati have produced an uplifting worldly sound, crossing cultures and speaking in a musical language that travels through the spirit of the east and the beats of the west. The journey begins. illuminati are: assunta: Vocalist, lyricist. Former lead singer of a disco band called Inferno, Assunta is the focal point. With a background and appearance drawn from an exotic mix of Burmese and Sicilian parents her presence is captivating and vibrant. After life on a never ending road performing live, Assunta decided it was time to pursue a more creative route and became part of illuminati. pari: Vocalist, lyricist. With a background that has revolved around India, his role is similar to a number of creative partnerships that have been prevalent in modern music. Pari is founder and central force of illuminati, providing its direction, aura and ambience through his words and music while remaining in the shadows. alanrock: Musician, programmer, producer. Alanrock wrote most of the music which he sculptured into the sound of illuminati, giving it depth, broadness and space. Formerly of legendary Brisbane techno act Base-X, he toured nationally and internationally and later co-founded Marski Music, an independent label which released a number of 12" singles in the U.K., Europe and U.S. during the 90's. His prowess as a producer and remixer has been in demand over the last few years following the establishment of the Marski Music Recording Studio.
